Over the past year, many of our favorite athletes/students have given us some great things to remember. Being that it is the holiday season, and this will be out last post until Christmas, let’s take a look back on some of the greatest gifts of 2008. The list, after the jump…
Reflections of a Parade: First Person
November 3, 2008Friday was the Phillies victory parade in Philadelphia. I did not get to go, but my younger sister and mother did (big ups, Mom and Julie). Between horror rides on SEPTA, Julie got some shots.
I could sit here and write a post on how amazing it looked from my computer at work, but I’ll let her pictures tell the story… Read the rest of this entry »
Releif: 28 Years in 28 Pictures
October 30, 2008Last night, the Phillies won their first championship since 1980. Words can’t describe the feeling that I had last night. I probably wasn’t alone. The feeling mounts and mounts for months and months, and finally everything that we wanted all year, all of our lives for some, we got with one last Brad Lidge slider.
So while Ryan Howard, Jimmy Rollins, Pat Burrell, Jamie Moyer, Cole Hamels, Chase Utley, Shane Victorino, Brett Myers, Joe Blanton, J.C. Romero, Jayson Werth, Greg Dobbs, Matt Stairs, Geoff Jenkins, Ryan Madson, Scott Eyre, Chad Durbin and Charlie Manuel will all get rings, but everyone wearing the “P” feels like a champion today.
So about that World Series…

The tarp covers the field at Citizens Bank Park after the suspension of Game 5 of the World Series last night
We’re not really sure what the hell is going on with the weather. It’s October 28th and some parts of Pennsylvania have half a foot of snow that is not of the Lake Effect variety. All we know is, for about 22-½ hours, the Phillies and Rays have been tied at 2 in the middle of the sixth inning in game 5 of the 2008 World Series. You all know, the game 5 that I predicted the Phillies would win to end the thing. But, I digress.
2008 World Series Preview – Rays v. Phillies
October 21, 2008
Tampa Bay Rays vs. Philadelphia Phillies
Wednesday night marks game one of the 2008 World Series. This year, the fall classic features the upstart Tampa Bay Rays and my beloved Philadelphia Phillies.
It has been almost 15 years to the night since the Phillies last appeared in the World Series. On October 23rd of 1993, Joe Carter hit a Mitch Williams pitch over the left-field fence to give the Blue Jays a 4-2 series victory and send Philadelphia into a championship tailspin. Since that night, the Flyers were swept in the 1997 Stanley Cup finals, the Sixers dropped in five games to the Lakers in the 2001 NBA Finals, and the Eagles lost the Super Bowl in 2005 to the New England Patriots.
